The event, that took place in Palace Strozzi, pay homage to Caterina and Maria De' Medici, Queens of France, holder of new cultural horizon, vigorous Regent, two women in power, both of them discussed and emblematic, both have signed a century of European history. Four hundred years after them, Florence has celebrated their mythos, bringing them ideally back in their origin town, through an exhibition with a particular fascination, that is born thanks to the recent composition of an amazing series of monumental tapestries that have been exposed with great success in Paris, at the Gobelins' Gallery and in the Chambord Castle. They are 15 spectacular works, almost five meters high, dedicated to the legendary Queen Artemisa, that evidence that the two Medici French Queens have used potent images in order to legitimate their claim to govern on families and factions. This tapestry cycle has been realized without parsimony of gold and precious yarns, during the reign of Henry IV who dedicated it to Maria, focusing on the theme of education of the ideal prince, his son, the future Lewis XIII. The portraits of the two Queens and the paintings that represent their marriages were an introduction to the theme of the women power. Thanks to the precious objects it has been possible to admire the refinement of their collection. Curious objects like for example an astral amulet belonging to Caterina - evidence of the passion of the Queen for the witchcrafts - and some letters have permitted to enter in their private sphere. In a scenographic "gallery of tapestries", something like a black-box that has underlined the precious colours , have been exposed the 15 monumental panels with also some plaster sculptures, with the aim to evoke the characters represented.
